I really liked this book, probably more than any other I've read recently. It is an Oprah Book Club book from many years ago...maybe just for the fact that the "Oprah Show" is mentioned at one point in the storyline! My only complaint is that I wish the last 30 pages or so had been written differently. It's not that the ending wasn't a "good" ending, but it seemed like the writing style or emotion of the book changed a little bit at the end. Still totally worth reading!I felt like the characters and emotions felt in this book were so realistic. There were 2 little girls in the book, similar in age to Brookie and Maddie, that I could just picture their lines in the book coming out of my girls mouths.

I just finished it and I didn't love it like you did. It's funny how we both read something and either love it completely or one of us loves it and the other one hates it. I feel that way about Oprah too ;P
I'm not really sure why I didn't like it. Like I said in person, I got tired of constantly reading about the farm or other things I didn't think had anything to do with the story. And you could pretty much predict the ending.
What do you mean you feel that way about Oprah? I don't love Oprah. Actually, I don't even really like Oprah anymore.
Maybe I just found it interesting to see what she went through in comparison to what Syd went through.
I hope this doesn't mean you're going to quit reading my books! :)
Oprah's book club books. She's had some (like Drowning Ruth) that I absolutely loved but then she's had some that she obviously put on her book list and I've hated them. Not saying I hated this one but I didn't love it either.
I rarely watch Oprah now. She never talks about anything interesting.
Good point about Syd. I hadn't even thought of that. Looks like he needed a better lawyer!
I'll always give the books you love a try but sometimes I might not love them as much as you did. Maybe I should try the books you hated too :).
