Gadgets: Meat Tenderizer

This is a must have if you cook meat! It is meat tenderizer that has these "needles" on it that poke into the meat, breaking up the meat fibers and making it a more tender product once it is cooked. The old meat tenderizers were metal mallet type gadgets that did little more than flatten the meat. I still use this type when I want to pound the meat so it's thinner....but, this new gadget doesn't really flatten the meat at all when you use it. So, it's ideal for steak, ribs, roasts, and chicken. I purchased mine at Smiths, but I think I've seen them at the regular grocery stores as well for around $15 or so.

That IS a great tip. I've seen them, but I don't know why I never thought to try one.

Kim, it is perfect for marinade's too because the juice probably just soaks down into those little holes and makes everything more flavored.
